Product Feature - Haathi Chaap & Plantcil ™
July 13, 2019Sustainability is also about optimising existing resource utilization and that seldom makes innovation its by-product! Today, the products I am going to introduce you to, are such kind!
HAATHI CHAAP
Haathichaap, was conceptualised on a walk, behind the pachyderms themselves!
Mahima Mehra, a Psychology graduate from Lady Sriram College in Delhi, knew that she wanted to work on recycling. Her passion came to fruition at Jan Seva Ashram, where she was assigned to the hand-made paper division.
Haathichaap is a one of a kind recycled-paper brand. Not only does it serve as an excellent example for optimization but also demonstrates what innovation can do! While most people would cover their nose and make faces, walking past animal dung in any form, this brave entrepreneur, inspected the elements of the elephant poo. She soon realised that the fibres in the poo were perfect for the handmade paper production. Some raw experimenting at the location and almost two years research and development after, led to the production of a single sheet of paper, which was safe to use.
Although convincing workforce to work with animal dung might have been a difficult feat for this recycling enthusiast, there was no convincing the world after the product was revealed! It instantly gained popularity in the international markets! Mahima and her team create not just paper but also other useful things like bags, photo albums, notebooks, stationery, etc. I personally loved the toilet paper idea!

PLANTCIL™
Plantcil™ is another such paragon! Made from recycled paper and newspapers, this brand offers a variety of paper pencils, free from toxic chemicals, polymers or plastic. Apart from the pencils, this brand extends its market presence by offering exquisite products like plantable pens (95% lesser plastic), plantable wedding invitations, plantable notebooks, envelopes and scribble pads. They offer corporate or event branding as well. I am in love with their plantable visiting cards and the Rainbow pencils!
