YOGA-ta do what YOGA-ta do!

September 25, 2018

When you talk of conscious living one thinks of hippies, treehuggers, yoga, vegan, etc. kind of a lifestyle. We see many bloggers talking about conscious living, approaching a healthy lifestyle for a better life and environment, but it is way more than just ‘changing’ your habits! Living consciously is a decision you make every moment. Every moment, every word you utter, every action, every breath you take has tremendous power. When you put consciousness to all, you experience this power. It is about putting your mind into your habits. More than mindful habits, it is about knowing what you are consuming or using, and the effects it has on your life and surroundings. We are already living consciously, we just have to elevate this experience by being aware.
This is where Yoga comes into picture!
What do you think of when the word ’yoga’ comes to your mind? Crazy difficult poses? Flexibility? Here’s the thing. While you may feel humbly victorious after you crack a difficult pose, yoga is not only about mastering the form!
I once asked a friend to join me for a yoga session to which (humbly denying) she replied that she found yoga to be slow, not knowing that she was right in a way! Yoga is about learning to slow down. Pausing. Finding ease. Letting go. Breathing slowly and deeply, experiencing every moment of your life. It is basically, being aware of your body, what’s within you and around you. It is about adding mindfulness to your life. Loving yourself and feeling compassionate
Apart for being known for improving balance, strength, energy levels and treating several physical ailments, it is also an excellent solution for mental health disorders like anxiety and depression.
About asanas, they will be different for each one of us. While some take longer to master, some may do it with ease. But while we do so, do not forget the pain and frustration one goes through to perfect the pose. Like life, we all have our own experiences, our pasts, heartbreaks. We will take our own time to heal through but our journey will be different. Hence, there is no point in comparing yourself to others or simply (mindlessly) following what people do. Respect people, for we see the smiles they put on their faces but don’t see the struggles in their healing.
Calming, restorative and refreshing, yoga not only brings tranquility to your life but also clarity. It is about creating a sense of harmony between your mind and body. Yoga teaches you to focus on your breath and be in this very moment so you are connected to the ‘now’!
For all those who think yoga is slow and boring, may I politely suggest you give it a try! Don’t wait for a reason to make it a part of your life. Listed below are a few excuses to try it.
  • Yoga is for all.
  • Good for your physical and spiritual health.
  • Helps you in living consciously.
  • Easy moves which can be performed anywhere.
  • No equipments required.
  • It is an excellent warm up and cool down exercise as well.
PS: It could change your life!
